The ATP rankings update published on Monday 4 May reshuffles the pack after a spectacular Madrid Masters 1000. While Jannik Sinner unsurprisingly strengthens his grip on world No. 1 with 4,910 points in the Race to Turin, the real upheaval lies further down the ladder.
Arthur Fils posts the most significant climb among established names. The 21-year-old Frenchman returns to world No. 17, gaining eight spots in two weeks. His Barcelona title followed by a Madrid semi-final, where only Sinner stopped him (6-3, 6-2), places him fourth in the Race to Turin on 1,890 points. It marks the first time since Lucas Pouille in 2018 that a Frenchman has sat this high in the ATP Finals race.
The other standout rise comes from Belgium. Alexander Blockx, also 21, storms into the world top 40 after reaching the semi-finals in Madrid. The Belgian had already made the third round in Monte-Carlo. Two Masters 1000 results in three weeks confirm the emergence of a player to watch closely on clay.
On the other end, Novak Djokovic continues to slide. The 38-year-old Serb, absent from the tour since Indian Wells in March, drops to seventh in the Race on 1,410 points. With no recent result to defend in Rome (he did not play the tournament in 2025), Djokovic must perform at the Foro Italico to keep his ATP Finals hopes alive.
Alexander Zverev holds third despite his swift final defeat to Sinner. Flavio Cobolli climbs to ninth in the Race thanks to his Madrid quarter-final and Munich runner-up finish. The 22-year-old Italian is season by season cementing his place among the sport's elite.
