After two opening days full of drama, with the farewells of Gaël Monfils and Stan Wawrinka, and the shock exits of Taylor Fritz and Jiří Lehečka, Roland Garros gets serious on Tuesday. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka, Daniil Medvedev and defending champion Coco Gauff all start their campaigns.
Aryna Sabalenka opens proceedings on Court Philippe-Chatrier against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. The world No. 1 is chasing a maiden Roland Garros title after consecutive semifinal runs.
In the evening session, Jannik Sinner takes center stage against Frenchman Clément Tabur. The Italian is pursuing the Career Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open and US Open, and arrives in Paris as one of the tournament favorites. Tabur, ranked outside the top 100, will look to feed off the home crowd.
Daniil Medvedev, whose relationship with clay has always been uneasy, opens against Australian Adam Walton. The Russian surprised many with a semifinal run last year and hopes to build on that progress.
Coco Gauff, the defending champion at just 22, will look to start her title defense with confidence. Stefanos Tsitsipas, a four-time semifinalist, faces Frenchman Alexandre Muller in what should be an entertaining affair. And Filipino-Spanish rising star Alexandra Eala, 20, makes her main-draw debut at Roland Garros.
After the early exits of Fritz and Lehečka, every seed knows that no first round is a given on the Parisian clay.
