Some stories transcend sport. Moise Kouame's run at Roland-Garros 2026 is one of them. At 17, the Frenchman became the youngest man to reach the third round of a Grand Slam since Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon in 2003, a staggering comparison for a player competing in his very first major tournament.
Kouame, ranked 380th in the world, fought through three rounds of qualifying before entering the main draw. After a confident first-round victory, he faced Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in a nearly five-hour epic on Court Suzanne-Lenglen that will live long in the memory of those who witnessed it.
Trailing 5-2 in the fifth set, Kouame refused to fold. The teenager reeled off five consecutive games to force a tiebreak, which he won 10-8 after saving multiple match points. Final score: 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 2-6, 7-6(8). Four hours and fifty-six minutes of pure resolve.
Kouame joins Joao Fonseca and Rafael Jodar among the teenagers in the third round, marking the first time since 2006, when Nadal, Djokovic, and Monfils formed a similar trio, that three teens have reached this stage of a Grand Slam simultaneously.
His next challenge is Alejandro Tabilo in the third round. At 17, Moise Kouame is just getting started.
