Madison Keys claimed her third Eastbourne title on Saturday, defeating Tatjana Maria 7-5, 6-4 in one hour and 35 minutes. The 31-year-old American joins Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova in the exclusive club of three-time champions at the British tournament, becoming the first player to win her first three Eastbourne titles consecutively.
The final left little room for doubt. Keys broke in the third game and led for most of the opening set. At 5-4, two double faults granted Maria a reprieve as she levelled at 5-5, but the American responded instantly with another break to seal the set 7-5.
The second set confirmed Keys's serving dominance. The former 2025 Australian Open finalist dropped just three points on serve in the entire set, a figure that encapsulates her authority. The decisive break at 3-3 settled matters. Keys finished with 36 winners, reinforcing the firepower that makes her one of the most dangerous ball-strikers on tour.
This title, her eleventh WTA crown and fourth on grass, arrives at the perfect time. With Wimbledon 48 hours away, Keys sends a clear message to her rivals: her game is tuned for fast surfaces. Throughout the week, she did not drop a single set, an imperious run that reflects her current confidence.
For Maria, 38, this final remains a fine chapter in an unconventional career. The German, who returned to the top of the game after the birth of her two children, promised she would be back next year. "I won't wait eleven years this time," she said with a smile, referencing her long absence between visits to the tournament.
Keys now turns her attention to the All England Club with the status of a dark-horse favourite. Her grass-court pedigree, serving power, and big-match experience make her an opponent nobody wants to face in the Wimbledon draw.
